Incredible edible
It may seem strange to make the first post on a supposedly cooking blog about gardening. Well, yes, but in my defense, I’ve grown stuff you can eat! Further in my defense, I am simply so astounded to have grown anything at all, that I simply must show it off just a little bit.
I’ve grown some raspberries. That you can eat! And they taste how raspberries should taste when they are not all mass produced and stacked up in supermarkets. I suppose it would be more accurate to say that my still-new garden has grown them. Pretty much without my help. My contribution has consisted of going to a garden centre and buying a not very promising stump in a pot, digging a hole in the ground and unceremoniously plonking it in there. And then I waited a couple of months and magic happened. It actually grew and produced fruit. Who knew?
It may be quickly becoming obvious that I’m no expert gardener. And in fact this is the very first garden I’ve ever had any input in and the first time I’ve tried anything at all. Up till now I’ve generally struggled to keep the sturdiest of house plants alive and now – it’s a whole new world.
A world where roses also grow (in a separate area). Also, completely of their own accord, though of course, I bought containers with small stumps but labelled as roses. With no great expectations, I dug them into the ground and hoped they might not die. Not immediately anyway. But instead they thrived.
OK, I’m done gushing about my garden for the moment. Next time it will be about food. Though I can’t promise that I won’t occasionally digress….
